Barolo mural

In May-June 2021 I had the opportunity to produce this original design for two interior murals in Barolo,Italy, at the hearth of the Langhe wine-making region. The facility offers flats for rent to tourists and since they can access it with a code, there isn’t a reception; for this reason, the concept was that the murals on the corridor walls could function not only as a decorative addition, but also to welcome the guests and lead them to their flats. I decided to get inspiration from the geometry of the hills surrounding Barolo: the vineyards, the vine leaves and the sticks that support the plants. I also added a different leaf shape to suggest a more domestic environment, as the corridors lead to the flats, where tourists can rest after a day of leisure in the Langhe. I based the design on the commissioners’ requests and shared my image-making process to ensure that the final result was exactly what they expected. I then produced a final smaller painting on paper to show them what was going to be on the wall.

All the photos which report the making of and the final mural are by photographer Emanuele Durbano. If you are keen on the process of painting the mural, you can view some steps in my pinned stories on instagram, click here.
